Data Center Location and .mx vs .com Buying Patterns
Domain hosting Mexico buyers benefit from something several smaller markets don't have: genuine in-country data center capacity, concentrated mainly around Mexico City and Querétaro. Hosting a Mexican business's site on infrastructure physically located within the country, or at least within the same region, noticeably reduces load times for a domestic customer base compared to routing every request through a data center in the United States or Europe.
Registration behavior in Mexico splits in a way worth naming directly rather than assuming: larger Mexican businesses and export-facing companies frequently still default to .com for broader Latin American and US-facing credibility, while retailers, local service providers, and government-adjacent vendors lean toward .mx specifically to signal Mexican origin to a domestic buyer. Neither pattern is wrong, and many businesses end up registering both and pointing them at the same hosting account rather than picking one over the other. A domain hosting provider that treats this as an either-or decision, rather than routinely bundling both extensions under one plan, is missing a request most Mexican business owners eventually make anyway.
